Migration Matters Online Festival

We are delighted to be involved in Migration Matters Online Festival, 15-20th June 2020. We'll be showcasing a new piece of creative writing with attached digital installation from three of our artists. As well as the fabulous Routes to Roots workshops with Maya Productions.

THROUGH MY WINDOW

What do you see through your window?

Ignite Imaginations invites you to explore the experience of migration in the context of lockdown during a global pandemic. How can we be a connected and welcoming community when staying apart is the best way to help each other? Watch the digital installation and join in with your own creative response. Sharing a glimpse of what’s through your window can help to bring us together while we’re apart.

Routes to Roots

Maya Productions participation programme Routes to Roots supports people under-represented in the arts to develop their own creativity. Working with Ignite Imaginations, Routes to Roots provides local young people with an opportunity to engage with the themes of family, heritage, place, culture and migration through exploration of their own family stories.

Routes to Roots is inspired by Benny and the Greycats, a new musical based on Maya Production’s Artistic Director Suzanne Gorman’s own family history. It tells the story of a family of Anglo-Indian musicians’ who swap playing in swing bands in South India to pursue a new life in Sheffield.

Maya Productions has a 25-year legacy of producing innovative, bold and culturally diverse work, to inspire social change and challenge perceptions. Using inclusive participatory and inter-disciplinary theatre, we highlight migration stories and champion BAME artists. We collaborate with communities and organisations to make ambitious theatre that will engage diverse contemporary audiences.
