Art at the Heart
From a plain wall at the Sharrow Community Forum Headquarters, Liz has completely transformed the side of the building, creating an uplifting, moving and striking mural. Inspired by the challenges of these unprecedented times, here is Ignite Imaginations Artist, Liz Von Graevenitz had to say about the inspiration behind the piece: “Did you know that a group of butterflies is called a kaleidoscope of butterflies I really love this name and is the inspiration behind the mural idea. The constantly changing colourful display, the many patterns, the light and graceful fluttering of butterflies sequence, all lend themselves to the many symbols and metaphors for life’s journeys, and I think we can all agree 2020 has been a journey! I am really looking forward to experimenting with my painting styles on an external wall and creating a large-scale work that holds the voice of the community. It’s going to be a challenge for me but I’m looking forward to the process. I hope that the weather holds out and we have some good sunny days in October! Come and say hello if you see me painting.”
And the hope is, that the mural will inspire others to get creative. Ignite Imaginations will also be providing 50 packs brimming with creativity for the local community in Sharrow to create your their own butterflies and get creative from the comfort of their own home.
Ignite Imaginations has a long-standing relationship with Sharrow Community Forum, as together they host the annual Autumn Carnival, Vicki Rolley who is coordinating the project said, “It is great to be working with the team at Sharrow Community Forum and members of the community on this project, after such a difficult year for many we are looking forward to bringing a splash of colour and positivity to the streets and giving people an opportunity to share and tell their stories.”
This is one of four new art installations for the City as part of the Art at the Heart project. This project, supported using public funding by the National Lottery Through Arts Council England, named Art at the Heart embraces everything that Ignite Imaginations stands for in celebrating and connecting communities through art and creativity and these pieces create a lasting legacy for the city.
