Talking About Our Generation

Talking About Our Generation is a project funded by Age Better in Sheffield and co-produced by Ignite Imaginations and Sheffield’s U3A. It’s a grassroots celebration of folk, peace and people power that aims to connect people up across all ages through art and culture, online at first and then in person when mass gatherings are back in action. This project will culminate in a festival with a strong focus on community, featuring performances and workshops from performers, bands, singing groups and musicians that explore the traditions of protest music as well as storytelling and discussions of creativity across all ages - of standing together and uniting to celebrate people power from the sixties to the present day.

These online workshops aim to bring together people from across Sheffield to map and explore true stories and memories of culture in our city. The art that we create will form an exhibition that will be virtual at first then later on show at the festival. Working together we can increase access to festivals and arts and cultural spaces in Sheffield for everyone.

The two workshops are free and available online to be watched at your convenience, and if you choose to take part we'd love to see your creations.

Part 1

An art workshop with textile and mixed media artist Karen Herrick where we’ll make collages of your favourite gigs, records, nights out, theatre shows, cinema experiences - of what’s made your heart soar or your toe tap in our city - anything that’s made a difference to you.

Part 2

A writing workshop with poet, writer and performer, Genevieve Carver who will take us through investigating and rewriting our favourite songs as if they’d originally been written about us.
