Inspired by Maya Production's new musical in development 'Benny and the Greycats' which tells the story of a family of Anglo-Indian musicians that swap playing in a swing band in South India for a new life in 1960s Sheffield;  Maya Productions and Ignite Imaginations have come together to develop a community arm of the project. We aim to celebrate and explore the theme of migration and journeys with people living in Sheffield today.

Routes to Roots

An opportunity to work with professional artists, over eight weeks, to devise a new performance piece or art installation inspired by yours or your family's experiences of migration, heritage and journies.

The final art pieces will be showcased at this year's Migration Matters Festival.

'Routes to Roots' is open for people aged 14 to 25 years from ethnically diverse backgrounds with a passion for arts and creativity. All session will be hosted on Zoom (April to June 2021).

Talking About My Generation

An opportunity to share memories of the 60s, stories of that era, journeys of migration and the music of the time. Develop your creative skills over eight weeks (April to June). Learn from professional artists, collaborate with others and develop your songwriting skills too.
The final art pieces will be showcased at this year's Migration Matters Festival.
