Back Then – A Celebration of Art and Engineering

Art walks, Exhibition and Seminar

Join us in celebrating our recent Royal Academy of Engineering funded project “Back Then”, exploring Sheffield’s engineering heritage through art.

We’ve looked at engineering in Sheffield’s past and present with five community groups and 20 volunteer engineers. Now we are opening the project up to the public with a day of creative and stimulating activities:

  • Discover Sheffield’s industrial heritage through a local art walk. (Please note the art walks are now sold out).
  • See the art work produced during the project in a free exhibition.
  • Explore the connections between art and engineering with a seminar.

Art Inspiring Engineering, Inspiring Art Seminar

12:30 – 4:30PM
(12:30 – 1:30PM FREE buffet lunch and entrance to the exhibition included)
Location: Gripple, Savile Street East, Sheffield S4 7UQ

Led by our keynote speaker, Stephen Beck (Professor of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Sheffield), we will explore whether engineering and art are connected, complimentary and essential to one another’s success. You will hear from the artists and engineers involved in the ‘Back Then’ project and their experiences of bringing the disciplines together with community and school groups, as well as representatives from Gripple and the Royal Academy of Engineering.

This is set to be a lively and inspiring afternoon!
